Common questions

The app doesn't recognize my phrase.

Speak at a normal pace in a quiet place and check that the recognition language in Settings matches the language you speak. Short or unusual phrases are harder to recognize — try two to five common words. You can change your phrase any time in Settings › Change secret phrase.

Can someone else open my vault by saying my phrase?

Yes, if they know it. A spoken phrase is convenient, not secret from people nearby. In public, unlock with Face ID or your PIN instead, and pick a phrase you don't say in everyday conversation.

I forgot my PIN.

On the PIN screen, tap “Forgot PIN?”. Confirm with Face ID or your iPhone passcode, then choose a new PIN. Your photos and notes are not affected.

Does the app send my voice anywhere?

The app never stores or uploads audio. For languages with on-device recognition (such as English), speech is processed on your iPhone. For some languages iOS may send audio to Apple to recognize it.

Are my photos backed up to iCloud?

No. Vault files are excluded from backups on purpose so they stay on your iPhone only. That also means deleting the app deletes the vault permanently.

Does it lock my iPhone or other apps?

No. Voice Unlock protects the photos and notes inside this app. It doesn't change your iPhone's lock screen.

Microphone or speech permission was denied.

Open the iPhone Settings app › Voice Unlock and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition. You can still unlock with Face ID or your PIN meanwhile.
